ANN ARBOR, Mich., Sep 19, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
Advanced Photonix, Inc.(R) (AMEX: API) announced today that it has received a purchase order worth approximately $1,000,000 for Light Emitting Diode (LED) Arrays used for night vision displays employed by the U.S. Military. The order is expected to ship within the next nine months.
The display was designed by Night Vision Labs located in Virginia, where extensive research and development of night vision and electronic sensor and sensor suite technology have evolved to the point where U.S. Forces can now see, control and assess a combat zone around the clock in all types of battlefield conditions. In addition to general surveillance, the US Military's Night Vision Electronic Sensors Directorate (NVESD) has proven to be successful in actual combat situations. It has been utilized in thousands of attacks launched by the Abrams tanks, Bradley fighting vehicles, Hummer vehicles and Apache attack helicopters.
In commenting on the order, Adam Tabakian, API's Director of Sales, said, "We are very pleased to have been awarded this contract as we have been working diligently to secure this business for the better part of two years. The contract expands our current customer base, and represents our continued growth in the military and defense business segment. Most importantly, it exemplifies API's total commitment to the needs of our military customers for high-reliability components necessary in the development and deployment of the sophisticated hardware essential to maintaining the US Military's superiority on the battlefield."
