Advanced Photonix, Inc. (R) (AMEX:API) today announced that Shenzhen University, located in Shenzhen, China entered into a contract to purchase the Picometrix T-Ray(TM) 2000 to be used for investigations into the applications of terahertz technology. The purchase order from Shenzhen University is expected to be shipped within 2 months.
The T-Ray(TM) 2000 is a laboratory instrument that produces, detects and analyzes pulsed terahertz waves used for research and development of novel imaging and spectroscopy applications in the industrial non-destructive testing, homeland security, and defense markets. Application development is the critical first step in the adoption and deployment of terahertz equipment. The T-Ray(TM) 2000's patented fiber coupling permits automated or manual scanning of the sensor heads over the objects being scanned. This facilitates the rapid scanning of any size object, greatly improves research productivity, and allows the system to operate in industrial environments
To date the company has focused its terahertz application development on targeted industrial quality control and homeland security markets, including determining product uniformity, size, weight, and composition, identifying hidden defects, and detecting concealed weapons and explosives.
Shenzhen University, located on the coastline of Shenzhen Bay in South China, was established in 1983, and has 22 colleges, 48,000 students and 1,100 teachers. With a reputation for excellence in Science and Engineering, Shenzhen produces many of China's top scientists, engineers, and business leaders.
